4 must-do S.C. summer activities for families

Summer is here in the Midlands – but before you know it, it’ll be gone!

With so many fun things to do around the area, we rounded up the 4 best, low cost, family-fun activities you can do with everyone.
1. Richland Library Summer Programming

The Richland Library system has a slew of classes, clubs, and activities perfect for everyone from tiny toddlers to teens! Try out one of their crafting or DIY art classes, maybe see a family movie or join in on story time – or learn a new hobby with their STEM clubs like computer coding, science projects and more.

2. Congaree Hiking Trails

Hiking isn’t just for grownups at Congaree National Park! The TREK trail is perfect for all ages with 2.5 miles of flat, boardwalk tracks where you can see a variety of nature’s finest animals, trees and of course – bugs!

3. SC Railroad Museum

Choo Choo! Grab your kiddies and take them on a ride they’ll never forget. Every Saturday through August the SC Railroad Museum, just 30 minutes outside downtown Columbia, offers a ride through the countryside as you chug along in a rail car – indoor and outdoor. If you’re really lucky – you’ll even get a spot on the caboose.

4. Riverbanks Zoo & Gardens

With so many cute animals, how could you go wrong? But this summer travel with dinosaurs in a new “Dinosaurs Around the World” exhibit where you can safari through the park to learn and see some life-sized replicas of the terrifying dinos!
