Could a brewery come to Cottontown? Columbia developer group’s newly purchased properties could house it

New restaurants? A brewery or distillery?

The Cason Development Group says the possibilities are endless following the purchase four additional buildings on Sumter Street in the Cottontown Commerical District.

The investment, totaling more than $1 million, includes the purchase of the former Columbia Loomis Armored US, as well as three buildings at Sumter and Jefferson streets that housed Dave’s Transmission.

A restaurant tenant has already laid claim to the location for 2150 Sumter and is looking to find another restaurant to grace the location at 2146 Sumter. A common courtyard connects these two locations, while office use will be the theme of the building at 2144 Sumter.

An interesting purchase was made at 2201 Sumter – the 6,000-square foot space was a large bank vault, which Cason Developers believe would be “perfect for a brewery or distillery.”

“But it is open to other uses,” the group says.

In all, Cason Development Group has acquired and redeveloped eight properties along Franklin and Sumter streets.

New additions in Cottontown include the Indah Coffie Co. and Circa Barbershop, located in the building at 2238 Sumter St. The first project by Cason in Cottontown was the War Mouth Restaurant, located at 1209 Cottontown.

“We continue to see tremendous upside in the rehabilitation of the Cottontown Commercial District,” Cason Development Group President Frank Cason
