This Sunday brings the Bojangle’s Southern 500 to Darlington Raceway as Martin Truex Jr. attempts to broaden his lead in the Monster Energy Cup and win for the second time in a row at the “lady in black”.

Here are some quick facts about Darlington Raceway from around the web:

Darlington gets its nickname, the “lady in black”, for being the first track in NASCAR to feature a paved racing surface.

Darlington Raceway has a unique egg shape design to accommodate the original land owners request that his minnow pond not be disturbed.  Current NASCAR drivers have been known to “wet a hook” at the pond to this day.

The official track length is 1.336 miles with banks of 25° at turns 1 and 2 and 23° at turns 3 and 4.

Darlington Raceway has a capacity of 58,000

Dale Earnhardt Sr. holds the record for most laps led at Darlington with 2648 but racer Ricky Rudd claims the most experience, completing 17582 laps on the track.
