If you don't want to drive all the way to Charleston for some great seafood, check out the family-owned Chestnut Grill.
TripAdvisor’s #1 restaurant in Orangeburg, The Chestnut Grill, is the hidden gem weary (and hungry) travelers are looking for.
A few turns off the interstate brings you to an unspectacular dark gray building with only the road sign and the plethora of award stickers on the door giving away the name and quality of the place.
Once inside, guests are met with a fresher look and smiling friendly staff, and it only gets better from there.
After speaking with restaurant manager, Marji Albergotti, WIS Meteorologist Von Gaskin and I sat down for lunch.
It was one of those “new restaurant experiences” we love to have, wanting to order one of everything on the menu because it all sounds so good.
In order to back up Marji’s claim that guests say the Chestnut Grill has better seafood than some restaurants in Charleston, Von and I both decided on seafood.
I ordered the broiled scallops and fried shrimp with a side of broccoli and cheese, on our very knowledgeable server’s recommendation. The quarter-sized scallops were cooked just right and the shrimp were of a healthy size and fried to perfection and the cheese on my broccoli side was just the right consistency.
We are a fan of Orangeburg’s Chestnut Grill, and you will be too, check them out!
