Here’s how you make blue-ribbon cookies by 6-year-old Madelyn

Madelyn Clark won a blue ribbon at last year's South Carolina State Fair with her bar cookies and shes here to share her secret recipe!

Madelyn won the South Carolina State Fair’s Blue Ribbon for her fruit and chocolate dream bars. We were lucky enough to have her come to our studio and make a batch just for us! To top things off, Madelyn even shared her recipe with us.

Fruit and Chocolate Dream Bars
(Makes 2 1/2 Dozen)

Crust
1 1/4 Cups all-purpose flour
1/2 Cup granulated sugar
1/2 Cup (1 stick) butter or margarine

Topping
2/3 Cup all-purpose flour
1/2 Cup chopped pecans
1/2 Cup packed brown sugar
6 Tablespoons (3/4 stick) butter or margarine
1/2 Cup raspberry or strawberry jam
2 Cups of milk chocolate chips

For Crust
Combine flour and sugar in medium bowl.
Cut in butter with pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Press mixture onto bottom of greased 9″ square baking pan.
Bake in preheated oven for 18 to 22 minutes at 375 or until set but not brown.

For Topping
Combine flour, pecans and brown sugar in the same bowl.
Cut in butter with pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Spread jam over hot crust.
Sprinkle with topping and chocolate chips.
Bake for another 15 or 20 minutes at 375 or until golden brown.
Cool completely in pan on wire rack.
Cut into bars.
