Corporate leaders for The Fresh Market have opted not to open the Sunset Boulevard location in 2018 as part of a larger plan to “focus on improving core operations within its existing footprint,” a company spokesman said.
Lexington residents have wondered for months if the North Carolina-based grocery company would be finally opening the Lexington store. Town officials originally said the company was looking at a Spring 2018 opening date.
But now, it appears that is not going to happen.
“At present, the company believes the most efficient growth vehicle is to focus on improving core operations within its existing footprint, so it has decided not to open any previously announced new stores for 2018. The company does not plan to comment on individual properties or leases at this time,” Scott Duggan, The Fresh Market’s Senior Vice President said in a statement. “Our focus remains on strengthening and growing our in-store operations, guest service program, merchandising selections, future offerings and, of course, our team members, as well as planning and executing new store openings after 2018.”
Sunset Boulevard is already home to several other grocery store options such as Lowes Foods and the Lidl planning to open soon.
