If you see a rooster in West Columbia don’t panic – it’s just the newest hot spot from the mind of restaurateur Kristian Niemi.
“Black Rooster dates back to probably 1996 or 1997…it was supposed to be the second restaurant I opened, the third, the fourth and the finally it came to fruition here,” Niemi said.
The menu was inspired by French and French-fusion tastes and will focus primarily on delicious seasonal offerings and carefully-crafted wine lists. Some items right now include a must-have brisket burger, seared duck breast and tuna tartare.

However – the menu isn’t the only star of the show.
“I think what’s most exciting about Black Rooster, honestly, is the rooftop bar overlooking the river.”
Niemi may be right – boasting some of the most fantastic waterfront and city-scape views is a feat that only he can claim currently, and wow is it a beauty.
The roof will eventually have its own menu of tasty bites, but currently has a full service bar, and yes, frose is involved.
Black Rooster is located at 201 Meeting St.
Bon Apetit!
