If you live or work downtown in Columbia, chances are you've passed by the Chicken Man. We pulled over and talked to him about his art.
Most days, you will find him on the corner of Gervais and Oak Streets in Columbia doing what he loves.
Originally from Edgefield, South Carolina, the Chicken Man has become the face of folk art in Columbia.
Ernest tells us he paints because it is his calling to make people happy.
“Anytime you can put something on the canvas board and make somebody smile you have done your job, you have answered your calling”
Find the Chicken Man downtown and pick up one of his famous chicken paintings for yourself, or if you ask nicely, he might just paint anything you like.
